Spring Term 2023

We have had an exciting start to the term in Chestnut class. Year 6 have taken part in Bikeability and are now able to ride safely on the road. On the 10th January we had a fantastic day of rocket building and sustainable aircraft designing as part of the Road to RIAT programme for 2022-2023. We are all really excited about our upcoming trip to the Houses of Parliament.
We have learnt about the outbreak of WWII and its impact; we will be considering the question: 'Are we now free?' In English we have begun reading Rose Blanche, the story of a young German girl in WWII, and studying the stunning illustrations for further meaning than that provided by the text alone. In PE we are enjoying creating WWII inspired dances.
Our work in Maths currently centres around fractions for year 5 and we are getting to grips with adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions. Year 6 are currently consolidating their prior learning and applying it to reasoning and problem solving.
Later in the term, in science, we will be studying forces and learning about Sir Isaac Newton and his discoveries.
We know it will be an adventure filled term and look forward to the exciting learning that awaits us!
